Starigrad is a village and a small port on the shore of the Velebit Canal, located near the Paklenica National Park, 45 km south of Karlobag. It is the center of the Paklenica Riviera, a 20 km stretch of coast where the mountains and the sea meet, so Starigrad is interesting for swimmers and hikers alike. In the hinterland of Starigrad is the Paklenica National Park, which includes two canyons: Velika and Mala Paklenica. A stream flows through Velika Paklenica, about 10 km long, and the steep sides of the canyon are up to 400 m high.
Paklenica National Park is a magnificent karst phenomenon with numerous caves, the most famous of which is Manita Peć (175m long), and it is certain that Paklenica hides many more secrets.
